Family life didn’t teach Carissa much about the concept of grace. Her identity and approval were based only on achievement and perfection. It wasn’t until she experienced Christian community that she began to understand what forgiveness and grace were for the first time.
As Carissa grew in her knowledge and love of God, ministering to others became a passion, and soon she was on a path through seminary. What she gained from her experience was less about her qualifications, and more about trusting God to do the work.
