Sermon Discussion Questions – Nov 5, 2017

Each week God speaks powerfully each through the message on Sunday. We encourage our D Groups to dig deeper by discussing specific questions in the context of their community and personal growth. These questions are for D Group leaders or any member of Fellowship who want to engage with the mission of our church.

How Faith Works – In Trials and Temptations
    James 1:2-18
    Brandon Barnard

Big Idea: Our growing faith should increasingly show up in our everyday life.

    1. One of the beautiful aspects of being part of a D Group is the opportunity to share the Word of God together. Read through James 1:2-18 as a group. Discuss some of the big picture topics of this passage.
    2. Is anyone in your group walking in some kind of trial or hardship (spiritual, physical, emotional, financial, parenting, etc.) right now? Share with each other some of difficulties that you are experiencing and how this passage challenges or encourages you. (D Group leader, be sensitive to how the Spirit leads during this time. Feel free to have spontaneous prayer for one another).
    3. Brandon said that “By faith, we should seek to understand who we are in Christ.” Read verse 9 again as a group. Christians can be physically poor, but spiritually rich. Christians can also be physically rich but spiritually bankrupt. In what ways does this passage expose your fallen condition? In what ways does this passage give you hope in Christ?
    4. Discuss how your group does at helping one another remember the truth of the gospel. How does your group respond when someone is living with divided loyalties (v. 5)? Think back to the Big Idea of James (top of page). In what ways can our group commit to each other to help each other grow our faith so that it shows up more in our everyday life?
