My wife Carolyn and have two married daughters—Christy Lax and Cara Dean and six grandchildren. We love reading, movies, and travel together. I like to hunt and fish but do not do them enough to count as hobbies.

At age six, I believed, publicly professed faith in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus and was baptized at First Baptist Church, Pea Ridge, Arkansas.
My nickname Ranger Ray, known to some of my long-term friends, comes from my training as a U.S. Army Ranger and from having served the 82nd Airborne Division.
